Common ingredients in anti-wrinkle creams

The efficiency of an anti wrinkle cream depends in part on the effectiveness of the active ingredient or ingredients present in the product. There are some common ingredients which are used in almost all the anti wrinkle creams and have the potential to lead us to minor increase in the appearance of your skin.

The most common ingredient which is used in the anti wrinkle creams is retinol. Retinol is a vitamin A compound and acts an antioxidant substance. Retinol is the first antioxidant substance to be widely used in non-prescription anti winkle creams. Antioxidants are substances that neutralize free radicals, which are unstable oxygen molecules that break down skin cells and cause wrinkles.

Retinol is less potent than the vitamin A derivative Tretinoin, which is a topical treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of wrinkles and skin disorder. Tretinoin is available only by prescription and is not sold as over the counter (OTC) medication.
